An exciting position has become available in the Fixed Gas Detection (FGD) division of a fast-growing, well-established Health & Safety distribution company which operates across the UK and Ireland. With B2B customers ranging from SMEs to some of the world’s most recognisable brands, we have a varied and dynamic customer base.

The position will join an expanding team and help to contribute to the growth of this area of the business. The role also comprises of regular maintenance/service/calibration visits as part of the on-going service and support offering to our customers across the UK.

This role is ideal for anyone with a background in a field service team, especially someone with a strong background in electrical installation and strong technical knowledge of electronic devices (fire alarm systems, security or similar).

The Role:

The role will report to the FGD Business Development Manager and will involve the following:

  • Installation and occasional servicing of FGD systems of various sizes

  • Supporting the success of the FGD team to meet company goals and targets Establishing productive, professional relationships with key personnel from assigned customer accounts

  • Using initiative to identify additional opportunities with companies who are having FGD systems installed

  • Working closely with other members of the FGD team, both field- and office-based

  • Liaising effectively with all departments within Shawcity, to ensure customer requirements are met

  • Positively contributing to the team performance by sharing and implementing best practice ideas

  • Training other team members as appropriate

  • Carrying out administrative tasks in a timely manner

  • Liaising with the FGD Business Development Manager regarding relevant information on a regular basis

  • Carrying out additional duties as and when required.

Ideal Candidate:

This is a hands-on role and the person appointed should have:

  • Experience of working within a field engineer team would be an advantage. However, a ‘can-do’ attitude and good cultural fit is more critical than previous specific experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills

  • Ability to demonstrate high levels of initiative, problem-solve and find solutions

  • Previous experience of electronic systems ideally

  • Strong influencing skills

  • Ability to understand floor-plans and schematics

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Possess a proactive yet flexible approach to work

  • High levels of attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask

  • Willingness to travel around the UK for work, with occasional overnight stays as required.


Suitable electrical or electronic qualifications would be preferable, along with suitable, proven experience within a field-based role.

Working Hours:

This is a full-time position and working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
