An exciting opportunity has arisen with our client for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead and deliver complex projects within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.


The Role


At Principal level, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects within agreed time, quality, and budget constraints. You will act as a technical lead, working closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and clients to deliver high-quality electrical and electronic design solutions. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and supporting business growth through long-term client relationships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design delivery, including design calculations and peer reviews

  • Contribute across all RIBA design stages

  • Take responsibility for all aspects of assigned project work

  • Act as technical design lead and mentor within an established team

  • Delegate and manage work packages, providing guidance and support

  • Produce detailed design deliverables (drawings, schedules, specifications, reports)

  • Produce due diligence reports and feasibility studies

  • Carry out technical surveys of existing M&E services infrastructure

  • Act as lead representative at project meetings and workshops

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders

  • Monitor contractors and oversee construction activities

  • Review and approve contractor shop drawings and technical submissions

  • Respond to RFIs from contractors and tenderers

  • Witness and review tests and mock-ups (on and off site)

  • Inspect works and issue quality, defects and practical completion lists

  • Build long-term client relationships with a focus on repeat business

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 2:2 degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services

  • 8-10+ years' industry experience

  • Membership of CIBSE and/or IET

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working towards chartership

Essential Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering and UK/EU/IEC regulations

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor and manage engineering teams

  • Strong understanding of contract administration, procurement and conditions of appointment

  • Ability to contribute to fee proposals with an understanding of resource planning

  • Confident presenting and defending designs to clients and design teams
