We asked three leading AI assistants, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, a simple question:

“Explain your best features to me and why I should use you over other AI assistants.”

Their responses gave an interesting insight into how each AI tool sees its strengths and what they believe differentiates them. This blog explores what we’ve learned from each of their answers.

Let’s start with a visual breakdown.

These are some of the standout features we’ve noticed for each AI assistant:

ChatGPT strongly emphasises its ability to assist with coding, technical support, and complex IT topics.

ChatGPT also focuses on up-to-date information about the latest trends, news, and facts. It has a memory (when enabled) to keep track of conversations over time, giving better responses and a unique friendly, conversational tone.

Copilot's Response
Copilot's Response

Copilot emphasises respect for data privacy, following Microsoft’s privacy policy, and has a more human-like persona without over exaggeration.

The “quick response” or “Think Deep” features allow you to choose whether you want a more summarised or more extended response.

Additionally, Copilot integrates with Microsoft 365, helping users create PowerPoint presentations and other Microsoft-related functions.

Gemini integrates with Google Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Gmail, creating a streamlined workflow. It emphasises its value to users of the Google ecosystem. It also has a built-in "Writing Editor" that works similarly to Grammarly.

Gemini has made it notable that it focuses on ethical AI practices and responsible AI development. Surprisingly, Gemini's tone was the only unbiased response, ending with advising the user to choose which platform fits an individual's needs.

Despite their varied features, all three AI assistants have these in common:

  • Code generation including technical brainstorming

  • Creative support – when it comes to writing and scripting stories

  • Access to current data and information in real time

  • Adapts its tone and style to each individual communicator

There were a few notable differences in tone and style:

  • ChatGPT is notably friendly, conversational, and succinct, often using bullet points and emojis for quick comprehension.

  • Copilot keeps things compact and to the point, even with its optional “Think Deeper” response mode.

  • Gemini offers the most detailed and structured responses, often walking users through its capabilities with clarity.

So, which AI Assistant is the best?

If you prefer detailed and more structured responses, Gemini is a good fit, while if you're looking for something more conversational, ChatGPT is best. Copilot keeps responses compact and to the point, and if you'd like answers expanded, you can opt for the "think deeper" feature.

The best AI assistant for you can also be determined based on the systems you currently use. If you use Microsoft 365, you may find Copilot a better fit. If you're using Google, Gemini would be easier to integrate into your routine.

ChatGPT is still the most widely known of the three due to its friendly tone and "memory".

Ultimately, it's down to your individual needs, the tasks you need help with, how it can integrate with tools you already use, and the preferred interaction style.
